Newark Liberty International Airport for X-Plane 12 Gets New Screenshots and Dev Update

Drzewiecki Design released more screenshots of its upcoming Newark Liberty International Airport (KEWR) for X-Plane 12.

We also get a development update with the latest progress made on the airport.

“Development of KEWR Newark for X-Plane 12 continues to move forward with strong progress across multiple areas.

All jetways are now implemented in-sim, with configuration and performance testing underway to ensure reliable operation with a wide range of aircraft. The cargo aprons are being populated with detailed clutter and service equipment, enhancing the sense of a busy, operational airport environment. Approximately half of the clutter pass is now complete.

Significant effort is being invested into performance optimization. Newark sits in one of the most demanding regions of the simulator, and careful testing has been ongoing to balance visual fidelity with smooth performance. This includes a focus on VRAM usage, scalability across different hardware configurations, and extensive use of LOD strategies. Results so far are very promising, and optimization work will continue as development progresses.

Surrounding areas are also being refined. Using native Laminar assets, we are carefully reproducing the environment around the airport, ensuring accurate approach corridors and recognizable landmarks while maintaining the excellent performance characteristics of X-Plane’s default resources.

Looking ahead, the remaining conversion work is scheduled to conclude in September, with October dedicated to comprehensive testing and final optimization. Given the complexity of KEWR, this stage will be critical in ensuring stability, performance, and consistency across all systems. Interior previews will be shared later in the testing phase, once optimization work has advanced further.

Newark Liberty is on track to become one of the most detailed and feature-rich airports available for X-Plane 12, capturing both the scale and operational intensity of one of the busiest hubs in the United States.”
