Indie developer The Planar Danse has revealed that its brand new wizard academy strategy simulator, The Fool’s Apprentice, has an official release date of April exclusively for PC via Steam.
In this Harry Potter-like management sim, you’ll assume the role of a prestigious Arcanist in charge of a magic school, tasking you with creating a curriculum, researching long-forgotten powers, and even sacrificing your least favorite students in the name of the arcane progress.
Every decision you make comes with a consequence, as the fate of the city of Golyron rests in your hands. Win over the citizens with helpful magic for the masses or keep the magic within your academy’s walls, which may result in risk riots or even the loss of your tenure.
- Spell-Slinging Studies: Educate hapless apprentices by directing their studies, managing their magical skills, and using them, in turn, to research new arcane sciences!
- Designs and Dilemmas: Make your academy truly yours through cosmetic and eldritch decorations, workstation upgrades, and by solving narrative Dilemmas. Each will react to your choices and shape the future of magic!
- Can You Meet Golryon’s Demands?: Your background does not make you immune from the demands of the city’s ruling class or its spell-less paupers. You’ll need to fend off (or fulfill) requests for resources, such as choosing guilds to side with, being forced to take a nobleman’s inept child, or managing for which side in a war to craft magical weapons!
- Magic for All! (Or Just a Privileged Few): Captivate the citizens of Golryon by bringing the arcane sciences to the people. Or, run the risk of riot by keeping it all to yourself.
Alongside plenty of spells and tests that can be run throughout your school, you’ll also have the ability to design the environment to your liking. Unlock plenty of distinct cosmetic and eldritch decorations, workstation upgrades, and more by solving the handful narrative choices that are thrown at you throughout the campaign to create a truly unique magic school experience.
