Today during the Nintendo Direct, Sébastien Benard, the designer behind Dead Cells, and publisher Devolver Digital announced that its upcoming fast-paced roguelike, Tenjutsu, is set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and PC (Steam) in 2027.
First unveiled during the 2024 Devolver Direct showcase, Tenjutsu follows former yakuza member Ten as she attempts to rebuild her life after returning home from prison. Her return threatens the balance of power in Kuroboro City, where three underground crime syndicates are determined to eliminate her before she can disrupt their operations.
Players must combine Ten’s martial arts training with an expanding arsenal of melee weapons, ranged options, and special abilities to survive encounters against ever-changing enemies. The game features fast-paced, one-versus-many combat that encourages players to develop their own fighting styles, but defeating one syndicate also lets the remaining factions grow stronger, making the final confrontation increasingly dangerous.

Kuroboro City features a shifting, randomized layout that players can explore and modify to suit their needs. Jokers let players bend the city’s rules by changing shop inventories and prices, building vending machines, and accessing healing options to extend their runs. Defeating enemies also rewards players with tattooed teeth, which can be used to unlock permanent advantages, expand the city, alter gameplay rules, and gain access to more advanced weaponry.
Between runs, Tenjutsu also explores Ten’s life beyond combat, letting players return to her apartment and visit Nanny Hoken’s ramen shop below, where encounters with familiar faces, unexpected visitors, and even enemies gradually reveal more about Kuroboro City and its inhabitants and add context to Ten’s journey as she works to reclaim her future.
