Following the Steins;Gate Re:Boot announcement for Japan made by Mages a couple of days ago, Spike Chunsoft confirmed that the game will be localized for the West.

Specifically, we learn via a press release sent to Simulation Daily that the game will be released in North America and Europe in 2026.

A Steam page has been made available, and today we also got the confirmation of the platform for the first time. The press release only mentions PC via Steam, and no console platforms have been confirmed, at least for now.

Here’s an official list of features directly from the developer for the reboot, which was originally announced with a launch window in 2025 and then delayed to next year.

  • Your choices shape the fate of the characters and the world itself! Featuring multiple endings that branch based on your decisions.
  • A text-based adventure where controlling Rintaro’s phone can alter the course of destiny.
  • Beautifully remastered visuals rebuilt in stunning high detail.
  • Playtime: Approximately 30–50 hours.

The press release reiterates that character design, artwork, and the user interface have been completely refreshed for the reboot, and a new and original scenario/scenaros expands the world’s story.

Funnily, the official description doesn’t really help in determining how many new scenarios will be included. While Japanese doesn’t grammatically distinguish between plural and singular, the English version mentions both “new scenarios” and “new scenario.” We’ll have to wait and see.

While the character design is still by Huke, outfits and accessories have been redesigned to make the protagonists look more contemporary. If you want to see the new art and screenshots, you can check out the news from a couple of days ago.

The game will be available with voice-overs in Japanese only, while text and UI will be in Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

If you’re unfamiliar with Steins;Gate, it’s the second game of the Science Adventure franchise by Mages, following Chaos;Head, and it’s arguably the most popular.

Following its release for Xbox 360, it has been launched on several more platforms across PC and consoles. It also received an anime series in 2011 that multiplied its popularity, and the new version Steins;Gate Elite, which uses visuals from the anime itself.

We also got a sequel, Steins;Gate 0, in 2015.

The visual novel is so popular that it has expanded to pretty much every form of media in Japan, and it’s considered by many to be one of the best games in the genre ever created.
