Specifically, we get to see many of the space stations that will be included in the brand-new Pyro star system, ran by a gang named Rough & Ready. There will be 12 of them, and each will be different.

While there will be rest areas that will be quite safe, Pyro is a lawless system, so within these massive structures, you’ll be able to find Contested Zones, which will be basically like dungeons populated by NPC gangsters and full of loot.

Of course, PvP will be enabled, so players will have to watch out for other players as well as NPCs.

We also get to take a look at the new asteroid clusters, which will include additional bases to explore, fight, and find loot.

At the moment, we don’t know when Alpha 4.0 and Pyro will be implemented besides the fact that Cloud Imperium Games is aiming for this year. Before it does, we’re still waiting for the official launch of Alpha 3.24, which shouldn’t be too far off and also comes with plenty of new goodies.

If you’re unfamiliar with Star Citizen, it’s a crowdfunded multiplayer open-universe sandbox space simulator that has been in development for over a decade. At the helm is Chris Roberts, well-known for having created the beloved Wing Commander series.

It has received over $715 million in crowdfunding ($715,553,722 at the moment of this writer) and counts 5,305,625 registered users, albeit many of them aren’t paying customers, as they register accounts to participate in the frequent Free Fly events.

A single-player campaign named Squadron 42 is also in development, boasting a star-studded cast including Mark Hamill, Henry Cavill, Gary Oldman, Liam Cunningham, Gillian Anderson, and many more well-known actors.

If you’re interested in Star Citizen, learning to fly might end up being helpful. To that end, you can check out our handy guide on how to get started with flight simulators.

Full disclosure: the author of this article has backed Star Citizen’s crowdfunding campaign.
