Today, GSC Game World has revealed Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl Update 2.0, set to launch as a free update for all players on August 20, 2026.
Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl Update 2.0 brings a new version of the engine alongside a major visual overhaul, improved A-Life systems, customizable difficulty settings, new weapons, binoculars, and more.
The Zone will receive improved lighting, more realistic shadows and reflections, and reworked landscapes and foliage. A-Life has been enhanced with more contested points of interest, while numerous fixes aim to improve enemy behavior and population levels throughout the Zone.

Players can now use Custom Rules to tailor individual difficulty settings to their preferred playstyle. Master difficulty and the previously introduced Expedition mode remain available for those looking for a tougher challenge.
Three types of binoculars are being added, each with different technology and functionality, and can be found throughout the Zone or purchased from certain traders. Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl also adds four new weapons: the Arev assault rifle, GP3A designated marksman rifle, SKP designated marksman rifle, and Fora-230 submachine gun. A unique variant of one of these weapons can even now be discovered somewhere in the Zone.
New optics include a 3x scope for Western-bloc weapons and a new red dot sight for Eastern-bloc weapons, and offset aiming has also been expanded beyond NVG use, giving players additional loadout customization options. Fog is now more than a visual weather effect, as both stalkers and enemies will have reduced visibility and hearing while it is present, and the Light Rainy weather scenario has received a visual overhaul.
Other additions include a new Statistics page in the PDA and different appearances for Bloodsuckers and Fleshes depending on their habitat. Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl’s first major expansion, Cost of Hope, also launches on August 20.
The expansion focuses on the conflict between Duty and Freedom and introduces new locations such as the Iron Forest, CNPP, and Spatial Bubble. Stalker 2: Cost of Hope will be included with the Ultimate Edition or available separately for $29.99 USD.
