The Shiny Rayquaza Tera Raid is considered a special event. It will run from December 19, 2024, at 4 pm PT/7 pm ET to January 5, 2025, at 3:59 pm PT/6:59 ET. One Shiny Rayquaza can be caught per account, though players will be able to participate in the raid battle as much as they want.

However, as a five-star raid, players will need to complete the main story to access the raid.

Shiny Rayquaza will have a Dragon Tera type, which means the raid will be a pretty difficult one. To help players prepare, there will be several things happening throughout the Paldea region.

First, the chance of running into Chansey Mass Outbreaks in Paldea is higher. These give lots of experience points, which will help players level up the Pokémon they need to take on Shiny Rayquaza. These Chansey Mass Outbreaks will go from November 28, 2024, at 4 pm PST/7 pm ET to January 5, 2025, at 3:59 pm PT/6:59 pm ET.

There will also be a Tera Raid Battle Event Series. This is a three-part series of five-star Tera Raids that feature Pokémon who be great to use against Shiny Rayquaza. Here are more details about each part:

  • Part One: Corviknight and Bellibolt, November 28, 2024, at 4 pm PST/7 pm ET to December 5, 2024, at 3:59 pm PT
  • Part Two: Azumarill and Clodsire, December 5, at 4 pm PST/7 pm ET to December 12, 2024, at 3:59 pm PT/6:59 pm ET
  • Part Three: Annihilape and Kingambit, December 12, 2024, at 4 pm PT/7 pm ET to December 19, 2024, at 3:59 pm PT/6:59 pm ET

There will also be increased odds and Mass Outbreaks for Shiny Pokémon that are black. These include Cetoddle (Paldea), Carbink (Kitakami), and Draxure (Blueberry Academy), and will last from December 19, 2024, at 4 pm PT/7 pm ET to January 5, 2025, at 3:59 pm PT/6:59 pm ET.

And last but not least is the Mass Outbreak Event Series, which will feature Pokémon with featured marks. Here are the details for them:

  • Part One: Tinkatink in Paldea with Ferocious Mark, from November 8, 2024 at 4 pm PT/7 pm ET to December 5, 2024, at 3:59 pm PT/6:59 pm ET
  • Part Two: Wooper in Kitakami with Absent-Minded Mark, from December 5, 2024 at 4 pm PT/7 pm ET to December 12, 2024, at 3:59 pm PT/6:59 pm ET
  • Part Three: Girafarig in Blueberry Academy with Intellectual Mark, from December 12, 2024 at 4 pm PT/7 pm ET to December 19, 2024, at 3:59 pm PT/6:59 pm ET

To celebrate the arrival of Shiny Rayquaza, The Pokémon Company released a video featuring the legendary ‘mon in Paldea:
