Today, Rockstar Games released a statement about the recent GTA 6 gameplay leaks, calling the unauthorized footage “heartbreaking” for the development team while confirming the highly anticipated game remains on track for its November 19, 2026 release.

The statement comes after more than a week of leaked gameplay clips, character details, locations, and map information circulated online, reportedly linked to a security breach involving unreleased GTA 6 content. The leaks first surfaced in mid-August under the name CyberLeek, with footage rapidly spreading across social media and providing an unauthorized glimpse at Rockstar’s upcoming open-world crime game.

The videos reportedly included protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, along with locations and gameplay systems from the fictional state of Leonida, giving fans an early look at material Rockstar intended to reveal on its own schedule.

Rockstar has acknowledged that the footage was leaked but has not publicly explained exactly how the material was obtained or identified those responsible for the breach. Reports describe the incident as a security breach, while Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, has taken legal steps to investigate the source of the footage and track those responsible for distributing it.

Take-Two has reportedly sought information from Microsoft and Discord through subpoenas as part of its investigation into accounts involved in sharing the leaked GTA 6 material. The requests are understood to seek account information, IP addresses, linked accounts, and other records that could help identify individuals connected to distributing the footage.

The legal response highlights the seriousness of the incident, especially because the leaks emerged shortly before Rockstar was preparing to give fans a new official look at the game. After years of anticipation for the sequel, the unauthorized footage disrupted a carefully planned marketing campaign and revealed portions of the game before Rockstar was ready to show them publicly.

Rockstar also apologized to fans for the lengthy development process and limited updates surrounding GTA 6, assuring players that the game is “nearly there” as development approaches its final stages. The studio acknowledged that some leaked material may have spoiled aspects of the experience for players, but encouraged fans to wait for the finished game and official promotional material rather than letting unauthorized footage shape their expectations.

Despite the breach and the disruption caused by the leaks, Rockstar’s plans for GTA 6 remain unchanged, with the developer scheduled to present an extended official look at the game on August 27, 2026, at 3 PM ET. The presentation is expected to give players a polished look at the upcoming title and shift attention back to footage and information released directly by Rockstar.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with Rockstar having previously announced the date in November 2025 after explaining that additional development time was needed to reach the studio’s expected standards. The game will return players to a modern-day Vice City while expanding the setting across Leonida, with Jason and Lucia at the center of a criminal story that will take players across the state.

The upcoming sequel will also mark Rockstar’s first new mainline Grand Theft Auto release since GTA 5 arrived in 2013, giving GTA 6 more than a decade of anticipation behind it. Grand Theft Auto 5 became one of the best-selling entertainment products of all time, while Grand Theft Auto Online has kept the franchise alive with years of updates and content between major single-player releases.
