After two weeks in early access, Ratatan developer Ratata Arts has spoken out about how it plans to address some of the biggest concerns with the game’s current state.

According to Ratata Arts, there are three problems that have popped up in feedback multiple times: balancing, Ratakaruta, and the roguelike structure of the game. Between an uneven difficulty curve, builds that felt too similar every run, and underwhelming risk-to-reward for a roguelike game, players identified key issues that Ratata Arts plans to adjust.

For balancing issues, the plan is to adjust things slowly so nothing gets too out of hand. The next update will have a Super Fever Technique ultimate move, along with other power-ups on the player’s side.

When it comes to Ratakurata, the short-term plan is to look for new ways to create a variety of deck combinations that work well. Ratata Arts is also exploring the idea of adding a Reroll feature to take a bit of the randomness out of every run. Plus, in December, there’s a plan to introduce Duo Cards that combine elemental powers, which will have a large impact on deck building in general.

As for the structure of Ratatan, the developer is planning a pretty large overhaul. To start this, the next update will introduce Risky Picks. These are strong enemies that offer rare materials, which are meant to help players get what they need without resource-focused runs.

There are also plans to add non-combat events, and in December, Dark Ratatan. Dark Ratatan will add several major events to the game, bringing some tension and excitement to later runs.

Ratata Arts is planning an update for the end of October that will address these issues as well, including the following:

  • Super Fever Technique (Ratatan Exclusive Skill)
  • Cobun Accessories
  • New Random Events
  • Ratakaruta Reroll Feature
  • UI Updates

Ratatan is the spiritual successor to Patapon, and it’s currently available in Early Access on PC. Fans can check out the roadmap for the game here.
