Today the esports arm of PUBG Mobile announced a new official partner for the PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2024, and it’s Qiddiya City.
The partnership announced on social media, is quite interesting due to the nature of Qiddiya, one of the megaprojects in Saudi Arabia designed to raise the country’s entertainment profile.
Located 45 km from downtown Riyadh and 70 km from the Saudi Capital City’s main airport King Khalid International, construction began in 2019 as part of the Saudi Vision 2030 initiative.
Among its focuses as an entertainment city, gaming and esports play a major role, so today’s partnership announcement isn’t surprising.
Among the 27 attractions hosted by Qiddiya including 12 branded theme parks, there will be a Six Flags amusement park, the Aquarabia water park, the Dragon Ball theme park, and the motorsports-dedicated Speed Park.
An entire neighborhood will be dedicated to gaming and esports, featuring multiple arenas capable of seating 73,000 spectators, team facilities, and boot camps, on top of over 30 regional headquarters for gaming publishers and developers.
Qiddiya City is expected to be home to over 500,000 permanent residents, create over 300,000 jobs, and generate 48 million visits per year. It’s certainly a very ambitious project.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed an intense focus and great investment in entertainment, gaming, and esports, and one of the main realizations of this ambition will be the hosting of the first official Olympic Esports Games in 2025.
In the meantime, the PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2024 is ongoing and will culminate with the Grand Finals between December 6 and December 8 at the ExCeL venue in London, UK.
