The Indie Stone has released Build 42.15.0 Unstable for Project Zomboid, refreshing the different game modes and introducing new weapons alongside balance adjustments and bug fixes.
To start with, the game modes in Project Zomboid have been updated to better suit different players’ game styles from the start. Below is a brief rundown of the new/refreshed game modes:
- Apocalypse: “Lore Canon” game mode where animal growth cycles, crop season, vehicle conditions, etc feel like 1996 Kentucky in an undead apocalypse with effects adjusted to feel more realistic and less like a game
- Outbreak: a faster-paced mode with less focus on non-combat elements to speed up the game for players who don’t have as much time
- Extinction: basically a hardcore mode that challenges the most veteran players
- Rising: a cozy-style mode where players can build their homes with fewer worries about combat (though there is still some to keep players on their toes)
Each of these new game modes has a preset in the Custom Sandbox so that players can change the settings to make it fit their play style even better.
There are several new firearms that are part of Build 42.15.0 Unstable. They’re each supposed to feel realistic to 1993 Kentucky, and a loot table and ammunition rework have laid the groundwork for this.
The new firearms are as follows: JS-14 Rifle, JS-3T Tactical Shotgun, L92 Carbine, L94 Rifle, MSR7T Tactical Rifle, and Trapper Carbine.
Shooting on controller has also been made easier with this latest update, with a new gamepad firearm aiming system. Other major changes include reduced durability impacts when using tools for their correct purposes and more accurate light cones for light sources.
Players can check out the entire patch notes here, which includes information on the exact bugs that have been tackled, balance updates, and other changes that are part of Project Zomboid Build 42.15.0 Unstable.
Of course, as an Unstable update, this is under the Unstable beta branch on Steam. Players should back up their saves or start completely new ones with no mods for the new update.
