Today Korean developer Shift Up, known for its recent games Stellar Blade and Goddes of Victory: Nikke, shared when we might hear more about its next game, code-named Project Witches.
As part of the Q&A shared with the developer’s (excellent) financial results, we learn that work on the new game is ongoing with the goal of launching it “after 2027.”
More importantly, we hear that Shift Up is ” considering communicating with users and the market in the first half of next year to share specific details about Project Witches.”
According to what little we know of the game, it’s going to be an AAA action RPG based on a new IP and it’s going to be multiplatform. Nothing else has been shared for now.
In its reports for the previous quarter, Shift Up mentioned that it planned to hire about 70 developers to work on Project Witches, with the goal of employing about 420 staffers by the end of 2024.
Today’s report mentions that the number of employees was 314 by the end of September (up from 287 in September 2023) so there’s still quite a bit of hiring to do to reach the 420 goal.
It’ll certainly be interesting to see whether Project Witches will continue with the formula Shift Up is known for, and that certainly paid off with Goddess of Victory: Nikke, and Stellar Blade.
For now, we’ll simply have to wait and see.
If you’re unfamiliar with Shift Up, its most popular free-to-play game Goddess of Victory: Nikke is available for iOS, Android, and PC. Its recent AAA game Stellar Blade is available only for PS5, but Shift Up is considering a PC release within 2025.
At the helm of the studio is CEO Hyung-tae Kim, famous for his beautiful artwork featured in games like Magna Carta and Blade and Soul.
