You heard it right, God of War won’t be the only “GOW” on PlayStation anymore.

The announcement reveals that the game, which is a remaster of the original Gears of War, will be released for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.

The PC version will come both via Steam and the Windows Store, and the game will be available via Cloud and Game Pass Ultimate/PC Game Pass.

The release date is still a few months off, August 26, 2025.

Not only will the game support Play Anywhere on Microsoft’s own platforms, but it’ll come with full cross-play and cross-progression on all platforms, including PlayStation.

On top of that, those who purchased Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will receive a free upgrade to Gears of War: Reloaded.

The game features 4K resolution and 120 FPS support and will be priced at $39.99.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • 4K resolution
  • 60 FPS in Campaign
  • 120 FPS in Multiplayer
  • High Dynamic Range (HDR)
  • Dolby Vision & 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos
  • 7.1.4 3D Spatial Audio
  • Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)
  • 4K assets and remastered textures
  • Enhanced post-processing visual effects
  • Improved shadows and reflections
  • Super resolution with improved anti-aliasing
  • Zero loading screens during Campaign

All DLCs and add-ons will also be included, like the bonus Campaign act, all multiplayer maps and modes, all the playable characters, and the cosmetics unlockable through progression.

Incidentally, this new approach of releasing games on PlayStation has been quite successful, with Microsoft becoming the top publisher on the PlayStation Store in the past quarter.

Unfortunately, not all news on the Xbox front is good, and recently, we saw the announcement of a substantial price hike for consoles, games, and accessories.
