According to the release provided by Nintendo itself, the Switch has shipped to retailers 152.12 million units in its lifetime as of March 31, 2024.

The console has sold 10.8 million units during the fiscal year (down 31.2% compared to the 15.7 million shipped in the previous fiscal year). Only 1.26 million units were sold in Q4, which isn’t surprising considering that the Switch 2 is coming soon.

We’ll have to wait a few more days to compare against the PS5, since Sony will announce its own financial results next week.

In terms of software sales, 1,391.23 million units of Nintendo Switch games have been shipped during the console’s lifetime. The portion of digital sales for the fiscal year has increased from 50.2% to 53.5%.

We also get the forecast for the current fiscal year, related to the period between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026.

Nintendo expects to sell a whopping 15 million units of Nintendo Switch 2 (which launches on June 5, 2025, for $449.99) to retailers on top of a still respectable 4.5 million units of Nintendo Switch. In terms of software, the company predicts to sell to retailers 45 million units of Nintendo Switch 2 games and 105 million units of Switch games.

Interestingly, Nintendo’s forecast mentions that the software sales figures don’t include games sold as part of bundles or upgrade packs.

In a statement, Nintendo explains that it aims to accelerate the Switch 2 platform “by working to expand hardware and software sales through conveying the unique appeal of Nintendo Switch 2 and continuously releasing new titles.”

According to the company, Switch sales “kept apace” even after the release of the first-look trailer of the Switch 2 in January, and its global sell-through (to customers) estimate is approaching 150 million units. The annual playing users for the platform were 128 million between April 2024 and March 2025.

Looking at pure financial results for the fiscal year, sales were 1,164.9 billion yen, down 30.3% year-on-year, while operating profit was 282.5 billion yen, down 46.6% year-on-year.

The forecast for the current fiscal year in terms of financial results is 1,900 billion yen for sales (up 63.1% year-on-year) and 320 billion yen in operating profit (up 13.3% year-on-year).

Super Mario Party Jamboree has shipped 7.48 million units. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has shipped 6.23 million units during the fiscal year (reaching a total of 68.2 million units). The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has shipped 4.09 million units. Nintendo Switch Sports has shipped 3.16 million units during the fiscal year (reaching 16.7 million units cumulatively).
