The New Virtua Fighter Project will have two battle rules: Standard and Uprising. In Standard, players will win by getting their opponent’s health to zero or causing a ring out. By default, players will need to win three rounds to win a match.

In Uprising, there will be “dynamic momentum-shifting opportunities” that will create more opportunities for each opponent to take the win. This is a new concept in the series, though specifics weren’t shared.

Three battle systems are also coming with the New Virtua Fighter Project: Break and Rush, Stunner and Stun Combo, and Flow Guard.

Break and Rush is a system that tracks where hits are landing to create opportunities. After a specific area of the body has taken enough damage, players can use a break attack to apply a broken status. This carries over between rounds.

The Stunner and Stun Combo is a strike technique that is meant to mimic reality with fluid (and complex) inputs. Last but not least is Flow Guard. This is a defensive mechanic that works with the Break and Rush System that will focus on fluid motions while looking good.

Fans can check out the new rules and systems and a teaser of the game that was shown at Tokyo Game Show 2025 below:

There’s no news on when the New Virtua Fighter Project is set to release yet, though Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is releasing on October 20, 2025, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 release later.
