Today SoFly released an extensive trailer for its upcoming Cardiff Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator, which is coming soon.
Specifically, the most relevant airport in Wales launches on August 29, 2024. It’s coming for both PC and Xbox.
Marked by the ICAO code EGFF and IATA code CWL, Cardiff Airport serves as a destination for several airlines and also hosts a relevant British Airways maintenance facility.
According to the developer, it comes with plenty of advanced features including dynamic lighting and animated people, on top of hangars with doors that open and close.
SoFly’s rendition certainly appears to be high-quality, and what we see is impressive, but the mission to carve itself a market niche won’t be too easy considering that not only another payware version (by UK2000 Scenery) exists, but Microsoft also released a free version with World Update 17.
Yet, the developer doesn’t shy away from the comparison, and actually included it proudly in the trailer itself, as you can see below.
The existence of multiple versions of the same airport should not surprise. The success of Microsoft Flight Simulator has created an extremely active third-party development community and over time duplicates appear naturally.
Of course, it’s good to have options and simmers can choose which combination of quality and pricing best suits their taste.
