According to the developer, it has worked with the 100th Bomb Group Foundation to pick select liveries from the iconic 100th Bomb Group itself, commonly known as the “Bloody Hundredth.”

We hear that the aircraft has been worked on with “extensive study and attention to detail” and closely collaborating with historians, researchers, and aviation enthusiasts, including many with direct experience on the B-17, like the Hangar Thirteen Foundation, which is engaged in restoration work.

The sounds have been recorded from real aircraft with the help of the crew of Sentimental Journey and the B-17 Cockpit Project.

MicroProse strives to “create realistic renditions of these iconic aircraft, effectively turning them into virtual museum pieces within Microsoft Flight Simulator.”

You can check out the results below, although we still don’t have a release date.

It’s worth mentioning that MicroProse already created its own simulator focusing on the aircraft, B-17 Flying Fortress: The Mighty 8th Redux.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is available for PC and Xbox Series X|S.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is also available for the same platforms following its recent release in November. If you want to see the massive visual difference against MSFS 2020, you can enjoy our video and screenshot comparison.

A few weeks ago, we published an extensive interview with Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator Jorg Neumann about the present situation of the sim and the plans for the future.

You can also check out our in-depth analysis of how much data the simulator downloads from the cloud, clearing the air from some widespread misinformation that has made the rounds over the past few months.
