PMDG just revealed the release date of its Boeing 737-700 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, which will also herald the highly anticipated High Detail Update for the 737 family.
The aircraft will be released for April 9, finally completing the 737 NG family for the new simulator.
Perhaps even more exciting is the fact that it’ll bring a full visual update that improves the aircraft’s look considerably compared to its Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 version.
This includes both textures and geometry changes, plus “tens of thousands of hand-placed rivets, screws and fasteners, improved skin mapping, enhanced modeling and animation of equipment hatches and exterior controls, improved ground equipment models and their animations, improved doorways, cargo holds, cabin interiors, cockpit, landing gear, gear bays, engines and lighting.”
This is done using the new SDK introduced by Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, which is quite performance-friendly.
As such, the update will be available only for MSFS 2024, and won’t come for the MSFS 2020 version of the aircraft. That being said, those who have already purchased the MSFS 2020 version will be able to upgrade to the MSFS 2024 version with a 60% discount.
The same high-detail update is going to be applied to the existing models, starting with the -600, which is already in testing, while the -900 will enter testing on Monday, and the -800 is expected to be tested “not long after.” Release dates for these upgrades have not yet been shared.
