Today Marvelous Entertainment announced its financial results for the first half of the fiscal year, related to the period between April and September 2024.

According to the press release, sales were 12,877 million yen, 92% compared to the same period last year while operating income sharply dropped to 592 million yen, which represents 51.4% compared to the same period last year.

The Digital content business, which includes video games, recorded sales of 6,246 million yen, 77.9% compared to last year’s first half. Operating profits were 104 million yen, equal to 66.7% of the 156 million yen recorded last year.

The reason for this fairly terrible performance was the lack of any new core console release both in Japan and overseas that being said, a couple of indie titles like The Hokkaido Serial Murder Case The Okhotsk Disappearance: Memories in Ice did fairly well.

Mobile games including Dolphin Wave by the developers of Senran Kagura: New Link and more performed well and contributed a baseline of revenue.

For the rest of the fiscal year, Marvelous is placing its hopes on the RPG farming simulator Farmagia, featuring art by Hiro Mashima, which is coming on November 1 for PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5.

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is coming to PC and Nintendo Switch in spring 2025, but the company has not confirmed explicitly whether it’ll be released within this fiscal year or not.

That being said, its presence in today’s presentation might hint at that possibility, especially since it later mentions a “concentration” of core console titles in the second half of the fiscal year. Due to this, the company has not changed its full-year guidance of net sales of 29 billion to 32 billion yen and operating income of 1.5 billion to 2 billion yen

If you’re interested in more financial results, other companies have also already announced theirs, including Koei Tecmo, Capcom, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Microsoft, and Konami.
