Earlier this month, Nintendo revealed the next iteration of the Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, including plenty of new games that would be arriving on it. Mario Kart World was one of those titles, and today, it was revealed that it will be getting its own showcase as well.
The Mario Kart World Direct is set to take place tomorrow, on April 17, at 6 a.m. PT via Nintendo’s official YouTube channel. The event will be roughly 15 minutes long and will show off everything from new maps and characters to never-before-seen features.
In the original announcement trailer, we did see a handful of unique and new features already, including rideable semitrucks, items that make you bigger, and even a cow with a nose ring grinding on a power line.
Mario Kart World will be the ninth installment – with sixteen in total including handheld, spin-off and, arcade titles – in the series, which originally debuted for SNES back in 1992. This will be the first mainline release in the series since Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in 2017, though that is really a Nintendo Switch remaster of the 2014 Wii U title, making it over a decade since fans have gotten a new entry.
Since the series started, it has sold over 189 million copies combined, with 75.81 million being from Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe alone. Mario Kart World is set to release as a standalone title on June 5, 2025, the exact same day that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be coming out.
