Today, Bungie officially announced that Marathon Season 2: Nightfall will begin on June 2, 2026, bringing the game’s first major seasonal progression wipe and server reset.
A full promotional showcase and a deep-dive reveal will air the week of May 25, 2026, introducing several major changes for Marathon Season 2: Nightfall. Night Marsh Zone is one of the biggest changes in terms of difficulty and rewards, introducing a nighttime variant of the existing Dire Marsh map with reduced visibility and a heavier AI presence.
A new Runner shell (Sentient), weapons, and a system to customize your Runner shell stats (The Cradle), which adds faster faction progression, several quality-of-life updates based on your feedback, and more, are being added alongside the next season.
The launch of the new season also introduces an extraction shooter “wipe” to give the community equal footing. We’ve listed what will reset and what you’ll keep below:
Resets:
- Runner Level
- Ranked Level
- Faction Level and Upgrades
- Credits and other currencies
- Exceptions: LUX and SILK
- All items in your inventory and Vault
- Purchases unlocked by Schemas
- Messages, rewards, and returned items in your Mailbox
- Priority Contracts
- Exception: first contract for each Faction
- Gear-granting seasonal Codex entries for:
- Runner Level
- Ranked
Not Reset:
- Cosmetics and weapon unlocked and redeemed during Season 1
- Codex challenges, including partial progress (except Runner and Ranked levels)
- Combat
- Feats
- Loot
- Map
- Runner
- Title
- Faction Unlocks
- Access to each faction you had previously unlocked is retained; no need to repeat Liaison Contracts
- Initial Priority Contracts
- Completion status of the first contract for each faction is retained
- LUX and SILK balances
- Rewards Pass progress
Unfinished Season 1 Reward Passes do not expire, so you’ll be able to continue to level them during Season 2. Ranked matchmaking queues will reset, and Emblems, titles, and styles will be distributed to your Codex based on your highest Season 1 tier achieved.
To celebrate the end of Marathon Season 1 and help players spend their hoarded gear before the server wipe, Bungie has activated several map events. For starters, the endgame raid map is open every day from May 21 through June 2, rather than only on weekends, and raid participants will receive a free Cryo Archive Sponsored Kit in their mailboxes daily to encourage high-tier runs.

Guaranteed Map Events like Intercept, Lockdown, and Anomaly will trigger at least once per run alongside increased UESC Security presence, which features extra Warden spawn locations, and dropship events are across Perimeter, Dire Marsh, and Outpost. Wardens also drop locked-room keys with 100% certainty, and keys are no longer permanently destroyed upon death and can be looted off rival player crews.
