The reveal made via livestream, was teased just a few days ago.

The celebration started with a gameplay reveal trailer alongside a release date.

The game is coming on September 23, 2025, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. We also learn that a closed alpha test will start on April 23, 2025. Signups are available on Discord.

Interestingly, Bungie mentioned that the game won’t be free-to-play, but it also won’t be full-priced. More details will be announced in the summer.

There will be 6 “Runners” (the game’s characters) at launch, but only 4 will be included in the beta: Locus, Blackbird, Glitch, and Void. Interestingly, the game has a variable player count depending on the map.

We then move on to a more extensive gameplay overview, providing an explanation of what the game plays like.

Lastly, we get an extensive story trailer providing a look at the backstory and world of the game.

You can watch it below. Interestingly, the trailer was written and directed by Alberto Mielgo, known for the “The Witness” and “Jibaro” episodes of Love, Death, & Robots, on top of the art direction of “Tron: Uprising.”

It’ll certainly be interesting to see if Bungie has a hit in its hands with Marathon. The team-based extraction shooter genre is certainly popular, but it’s also a niche with very established players, so carving a space in it may be a challenge.

The release on multiple consoles may certainly be a helpful element, and we’ll know more when the game releases in September.
