Helldivers 2 Addresses Installation Size on PC & How It Plans to Fix the Issue

Today, Arrowhead Game Studios addressed fans about the state of Helldivers 2 and the problems players have been experiencing regarding the technical health of the game and how they plan to address them.

In a recent Helldivers 2 Tech Blog, Arrowhead Deputy Technical Director Brendan Armstrong addressed growing concern about the large installation size of Helldivers 2 on PC, especially when compared to the console versions. According to him, the game’s size is a result of duplicating data to ensure faster loading times for players on older Hard Disk Drives (HDDs).

This HDD issue creates a performance bottleneck that the PC version accommodates by storing more redundant information. To resolve this issue, the developers are weighing the costs and trade-offs of the available options they have to ensure a better balance between loading times and installation while still being available to a wide array of PC users.

In the short term, the next update will implement a few changes to reduce the size, although there are also medium- and long-term plans in place. You can check out the full post here.

Helldivers 2 was released back in February 2024 and has been a resounding success. In addition to plenty of rave reviews from both critics and fans, it became the fastest-selling PlayStation game of all time, with over 12 million sold in 12 weeks of its release, and is also Sony’s most successful Windows title.

Helldivers 2 is currently available for PlayStation 5 and PC, starting at a price point of $39.99. For more information on the Sony shooter and plenty of other gaming and sim content, be sure to check back to Simulation Daily.
