Helldivers 2 Escalation of Freedom Update Drops August 6

Freedom is being brought to the Swamps.

Today, the PlayStation Blog revealed that Helldivers 2 would be getting its biggest update yet and that fans wouldn’t have to wait very long to get their hands on the free content. To be exact, the announcement states that the update will queue on August 6, 2024.

The blog post that accompanied the trailer had plenty to say about what will be coming in Escalation of Freedom, so we’ve summarized the main points for you below:

  • New Difficulty – Combat Rating 10 Super Helldive missions
  • New Enemies & Terrains – Dangerous swamps and spore enemies that shroud the area in fog
  • Grief Kicking Changes – implements a system where if a player is kicked, they will spawn into a new session as the host with all of the team’s loot from their previous session

These are just a few of the exciting new quality-of-life changes players can expect when they get their hands on Helldivers 2 – Escalation of Freedom, as developer Arrowhead Game Studios has promised plenty of surprises are in store.

Since its release in February 2024, Helldivers 2 has been a resounding success. In addition to plenty of rave reviews from both critics and fans, it became the fastest-selling PlayStation game of all time, with over 12 million sold in 12 weeks of its release. It is also Sony’s most successful Windows title.
