Today, Code Horizon released a progress update for its hit prospecting sim, Gold Mining Simulator 2, via their latest Devlog #8.
The latest post on Gold Mining Simulator 2 discusses player engagement with the public demo and outlines planned development milestones. According to the developers, more than 144,000 users added the demo to their Steam libraries, while over 120,000 unique players launched the game.
The average play session for the demo also lasted around 53 minutes, received an 83% positive rating during Steam Next Fest, and was wishlisted by 42,500 users. Alongside this, Code Horizon reviewed more than 500 player comments and reviews.
Feedback primarily focused on performance, vehicle handling, and the limited content available. The team stated that the demo was intended as a technical test of the game’s Unreal Engine 5 framework rather than a representation of the final product.
Based on player feedback, the developers announced that future public testing will shift from smaller demos to a larger multiplayer playtest. Planned features for the full release include larger mining claims, additional washplants, four-player cooperative gameplay, expanded logistics and repair systems, dynamic weather and seasonal effects, a market-driven gold economy, and prospecting mechanics.
Originally released in 2017, Gold Mining Simulator was a hit with fans, rising in popularity thanks to its emphasis on real-world mining techniques and machinery. The sequel to the prospecting sim looks to build on that success by adding plenty of new gameplay features and challenges while still keeping what made the original a hit.
Gold Mining Simulator 2 is scheduled for release in 2027 for PC. A public multiplayer playtest is expected before launch, and a future development update is planned within the next two to three months.
