The Shibuya Ward in Tokyo is famous for its youth-friendly and cosmopolitan culture, its neon lights, and impressive scramble crossing, but it’s also affected by many issues. The Shibuya Future Design Association has taken to Fortnite to raise awareness among young people and foreign visitors.
An island named “Shibuya City Boss Battle,” developed by EbuAction’s Border Studio, has been made available in Fortnite as part of the “Shibuya Good Manner Challenge.”
The island features a shooting game set in a post-apocalyptic trash-flooded Shibuya Ward, reproducing the area around the scramble crossing.
Players have to pick up trash and erase graffiti while killing or avoiding monsters, fight bosses that appear periodically, and bring the trash collected to the popular Hachiko statue in order to raise their level cap.
You can access the island with the code 5213-7689-0580 and get educated about local social issues like drinking in the streets and littering.
The game also features an appearance of JK Zombie, a new IP illustrated by Posuka Demizu of The Promised Neverland fame.
The organizer of the project, Shibuya Future Design, is an association led by local stakeholders like the president of the Shibuya Chamber of Commerce, the deputy mayor of Shibuya Ward, and more.
This is just another example among many showing how Fortnite is turning into a full-fledged metaverse used by many parties to tackle real-world issues by spreading the message among gamers.
In other Fortnite news, the new Chapter 2 Remix has just launched following a series of teasers.
The game, and by extension the new Shibuya City Boss Battle island, is available on pretty much every platform excluding iOS outside of Europe.
