Today, the Fortnite team revealed some Epic news for its players, as creators can now add proximity chat to their islands. This in-game voice feature enables you to communicate with other players, be they friends or foes, when you’re within close proximity of one another.
This feature will help players develop and communicate new strategies with their teammates or even form alliances with other players they encounter in the wild. On the other hand, it also means that you’ll be subjected to the fear that comes with hearing a voice nearby and not knowing who it is. This adds a considerable layer of strategy to any fight.
Proximity chat for Fortnite creators is off by default, so you don’t have to worry about it if you don’t want to use it. Anyone who does want to give it a try simply has to go to the Voice Chat section of Island Settings and turn it on. From there, you’ll be able to customize volume range and distance, allowing for a lot of customization and unique scenarios.
This feature is still in Early Access, so Epic will monitor any kinks or bugs that may occur. The developers hope fans can help iron out any issues that arise so that they can improve upon it in the future.
The ability to chat with any stranger within player-created content is definitely another relevant step on Fortnite’s path to becoming a full-fledged metaverse, fulfilling the need for impromptu social interaction.
In other Fortnite news, Lego Fortnite players will get a huge update tomorrow, which includes the Battle Bus. Anyone who plays the regular version of the game will also be able to drive their very own Cybertruck in-game. Be sure to return to Simulation Daily for more updates on the series as they unfold.
