Square Enix revealed the opening cutscene of the upcoming Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles remaster during a panel at PAX East.
The reveal was the culmination of the panel, which starred Director Kazutoyo Maehiro and Art Director Hiroshi Minagawa. We can easily say that the crowd was pleased.
Veterans who have played the original game will certainly recognize the scene, even if the perspective is completely different and rather spectacular.
Funnily, the cutscene reminded me of Valkyria Chronicles, which is perhaps appropriate considering how much Sega’s dormant (let’s hope not for long) franchise was inspired by Final Fantasy Tactics.
You can watch the video below, and you can also take a look at the full panel on Square Enix’s official channel. It’s definitely interesting.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will release on September 30, for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, fulfilling a widespread wish among the fans who have waited for this for a long, long time.
The game was revealed by Square Enix at a recent PlayStation State of Play broadcast and was definitely one of the most exciting reveals of the bunch.
The package will include both the original version and the remastered version, which also includes improvements beyond the graphics, including a revamped script, fully voiced dialogue, and quality-of-life changes.
It’ll certainly be interesting to see how the modern audience will react to one of the best strategy (or simulation, as they call them in Japan) JRPGs of all time.
