According to the documents provided by the publisher, net sales for the whole company were 59,275 million yen (down 15.2% year-on-year), while operating income was 9,018 million yen (down 16.8% year-on-year).

Looking at the Digital Entertainment business, which includes video games, net sales were 32,918 million yen (down 25.0% year-on-year) and operating income was 8,126 million yen (down 16.8%) year-on-year.

As is tradition, Square Enix shared the breakdown of its results for its different video game segments.

HD games, which indicate non-live-service titles for consoles and PC, recorded 8.9 billion yen in net sales and 1 billion yen in operating profit.

Compared to the previous fiscal year (12.3 billion yen in sales and 0.05 billion yen in operating profit) sales were down due to lower performance of new games, while profit was up due to lower development and advertisement costs.

MMOs recorded 9.6 billion in net sales and 3.6 billion in operating profits, both down compared to the previous fiscal year (12.5 billion yen in net sales and 6.6 billion yen in operating profit).

It’s worth mentioning that the same quarter of the previous fiscal year saw the start of the early access of the latest Final Fantasy XIV expansion Dawntrail, so it isn’t suyrprising that the values are down. That being said, The MMO segment still recorded the second-highest sales behind mobile games, and the highest profits during the quarter.

Speaking of mobile games, net sales were 14.3 billion yen and operating income was 3.3 billion yen. Sales were down from 18.9 billion yen in the previous fiscal year, while profits were slightly up from 3.0 billion yen. This was due to the “diversification of payment methods” despite “weakness in existing titles.”

Other gaming companies have also already announced their financial results this quarter, including Koei Tecmo, Ubisoft, Krafton, Electronic Arts, Capcom, Microsoft, Konami, Marvelous Entertainment, Nintendo, Bandai Namco, Sony, Take-Two, and Sega.
