Epic Games and Unity have come together at Unite 2025 to announce that Unity games will be coming to Fortnite, and Unreal Engine will give developers who use it the chance to use Unity’s in-app commerce platform.

At Unite 2025, a conference specifically for game developers, Epic Games CEO and Founder Tim Sweeney appeared with the news that Epic Games and Unity are coming together to give developers more opportunities and options.

Perhaps the biggest news is that Unity games are coming to Fortnite, which is one of the biggest gaming ecosystems in the world. Games in the Fortnite Creator Economy make up for 40% of Fortnite playtime.

These games bring in hundreds of millions of dollars per year. Soon, games made with Unity will be able to join that ecosystem, giving Unity developers a chance to join in.

This is being made possible by integration technology from Unity itself.

That’s not all, either. Developers who are working in Unreal Engine 5 will have the option to use the in-app commerce platform from Unity. This is a cross-platform tool that developers will be able to set up to manage the financial side of their games (like pricing, sales and promotions, and live operations) across PC, mobile devices, and web.

Unity’s commerce platform will be available in Unreal Engine in early 2026.

President and CEO of Unity, Matt Bromberg, shared excitement about the partnership:

“We’re excited to partner with Epic Games to create more opportunities for game developers around the world. Choice and open systems create growth for everyone in the gaming ecosystem.”

Sweeney also shared excitement about what all of this means for developers:

“Just like the early days of the web, we believe that companies need to work together in order to build the open metaverse in a way that’s interoperable and fair. Working alongside Unity we’re helping developers build fun games, reach bigger audiences, and find success.”

Additionally, you can watch Sweeney speak on the partnership at Unite 25 below:

More details about everything, including the exact timing of everything, will be announced next year.
