Today, KONAMI announced a group of updates for eFootball during the eFootball CONNECT livestream at the eFootball World Festival in Bangkok, Thailand.
First, the livestream introduced Sergio Agüero as a playable Legend for the first time, brought back Wayne Rooney with upgraded abilities, and previewed new gameplay features set to arrive in August.
Agüero joins the game as part of the Epic: Legends Assemble Special campaign and can be obtained during the eFootball World Festival Campaign. Players who log in during the event can claim one of 11 legendary footballers for free, with Agüero featuring the Blitz Curve and Low Screamer skills.
Wayne Rooney returns with new abilities, including the Phenomenal Finish and Willpower skills, as well as a +3 boost to his shooting, and players who take part in a special in-game event can also select one of the 11 featured Legends as a reward. The new Treasure Link event is available now and introduces a bingo-style achievement system that rewards players for logging in and competing in online matches, with rewards coming in Normal, Rare, and Special variants, with exclusive items for select players and attendees of the eFootball World Festival.
KONAMI also outlined a major gameplay update coming in August that will add Custom Tournament mode, letting players create or join tournaments with customizable rules and formats. A new Overload Team Style will allow players to overload the ball side of the pitch to create numerical advantages, improving possession in attack and enabling quicker pressing in defense.
Players will be able to use separate formations for attacking and defending, adding more tactical flexibility during matches, while managers with two Link-Ups will also be introduced at the start of the new season.
The eFootball Championship 2026 World Finals also recently concluded at the World Festival, with 32 competitors in the Console and Mobile divisions, with Brazil winning both championships. FUTEASY_10 defeated Ettorito to win the Console (PlayStation 5) title, while Rentao beat Yassine to claim the Mobile championship again.
KONAMI reported that this year’s tournament drew about 45.21 million participants during qualification across more than 200 countries and regions, surpassing last year’s record by 8.79 million players.
Following his victory, Rentao said he was pleased that his extensive preparation paid off and that he was able to execute everything he had practiced before the tournament. Console champion FUTEASY_10 said winning the World Finals had been a long-term goal and thanked supporters from Brazil and around the world for their encouragement.
To mark Bangkok as this year’s host city, KONAMI announced that Thai football legend Piyapong Pue-on will join eFootball later this year, along with the addition of Thai-language commentary. eFootball General Producer Junichi Taya said the team will continue to deliver new initiatives and experiences so more football fans in Thailand can enjoy the game.
