Today, Electronic Arts showed off the latest look at gameplay for this year’s iteration of its annual soccer series, EA Sports FC 26, with this look focusing on the highly anticipated changes coming to Career Mode.
Consisting of Manager and Player Careers, this mode had always been a fan favorite in FIFA and FC titles, allowing players to live out their dreams of starting a career on the pitch as a player or controlling the entire thing as a manager. According to the developer, this year’s changes will be considerable, as EA Sports FC 26 will add new Manager Live Challenges, Archetypes inspired by greats of the game, and a new Authentic Gameplay preset.
Manager Live Challenges were introduced after fan feedback that requested more variety in career mode saves. Now, there will be a dynamic Hub filled with ever-changing Challenges, meaning no two seasons will have the same goals or feel, resulting in some distinct narratives and stories.
Challenges have been inspired by real-world events, like the frenzy of transfer windows or the UEFA Champions League knockouts, while other Reactive Challenges are timed to capture specific events, creating “What If?” moments like unexpected upsets or epic title battles.
Player Archetypes were teased in the last gameplay reveal, and they’ll have a considerable role in how your Career will play out both as a Player and Manager. The system introduces 13 Archetypes, all inspired by an ICON of world football, and each built to give you options that fit your style of play, especially thanks to sub-categories known as Specializations.
Specializations are unique to each Archetype, working as a skill tree to allow your player to go down numerous possible paths depending on what you invest in and your style of play. This also affects how players will progress, as your chosen path will establish your attributes and growth trajectory
Authentic Gameplay presets is also set to play a huge role in Career mode for EA Sports FC 26, as they’ll not only make games feel less predictable, but also create a clear distinction between authentic football simulation and the more fast-paced approach of competitive online matches. These and the numerous new tactics being introduced this year can be customized to fit however you like to play.
