Today, Electronic Arts showed off the latest look at gameplay for this year’s iteration of its annual soccer series, EA Sports FC 26.
In the official gameplay Deep Dive, EA’s focus was all about “making gameplay better.” According to the developers, that means focusing on gameplay separation, core fundamentals, and feedback-inside features and updates. For gameplay separation, EA Sports FC 26 has been split into Competitive and Authentic presets.
Competitive is tuned for added responsiveness and higher player control (Ultimate Team and Clubs), while Authentic is based on higher realism tempo/speed in offline modes (Career Mode). This will allow players who enjoy the fast-paced action of online gaming to have their own way to play without feeling bogged down, and those who want a more true-to-life match experience, rather than an arcade scorefest, to have their own lane too.
Due to these two separate styles of playing, the gameplay fundamentals are being adjusted a bit. Depending on the mode you choose, mechanics like Dribbling, Pace, Passing, Tackling, Shooting, Goalkeepers, and Physicality will feel considerably different.
After plenty of feedback from EA Sports FC 25, this year will add more player roles, including Ball-Playing Keeper, Wide Back, Inverted Wingback, and Box Crasher. Existing roles will also be more flexible, reducing the impact of being out of position and just letting players feel less restricted in general.
For the first time ever, High Contrast Mode will allow you to adjust the visual separation between footballers, the pitch, and other key elements, making action clearer and more visible to those who need it. This ranges from Pitch Saturation Sliders to Stadium Shadow toggles, making this one of the most accessible EA titles ever released.

EA Sports FC 26 will be released on September 26, 2025, for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Amazon Luna, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2, and will also be available worldwide to play on with early access through the Ultimate Edition beginning September 19, 2025.
Anyone who pre-orders EA Sports FC 26 Ultimate Edition by August 26 will receive an untradeable ICON Player Item, which will become an upgraded version at a later date to recognize the moment they became a Champion. If you played last year’s version of the game, you’ll also get an EVO that boosts any player’s shooting to 99 and Pick 1 of 5 untradeable ICON players rated 93+ from previous campaigns, including Grassroot Greats, FUT Birthday, Dreamchasers & FUT Immortals.
