Funcom has just released a first look at the extensive skills from the various schools of the Imperium in its highly anticipated video game adaptation of Frank Herbert’s legendary sci-fi novel Dune: Awakening. This particular look centers around the abilities of arguably the most iconic and secretive sects in the series, the Bene Gesserit.
An ancient sisterhood of spies, advisors, and truth-seekers that manipulates the Imperium from the shadows, the Bene Gesserit can teach you numerous skills to improve your stealth, manipulation, and cunning so that you can help steer humanity’s evolution in the way they see fit.
While there are many unique abilities, this particular look shows off Bindu Sprint, Compel, and Recovery, each of which you’ll see detailed below:
- Bindu Sprint: Override your nervous system and musculature with an immense surge of activity, allowing you to run forward at an incredible speed.
- Compel: Use the Voice to force a target to your position from afar. Voice abilities require a short period for you to “register” your opponent before they can be used.
- Recovery (passive): You are able to heal your body more effectively after suffering catastrophic injury – regenerating your health to a higher threshold than normal.
It is important to note that you will be able to mix and match skills from schools, though you’ll have to seek them out yourself if you don’t choose them as a mentor from the outset. One such sister known to work with outsiders is Sister Mesa, located somewhere in the Hagga Basin.
When you speak with her, she’ll request your aid in seeking out ancient texts from the Missionara Protectiva. This part of the Sisterhood is tasked with intentionally seeding prophecies among world populations to control them on Arrakis, so they likely hold key information you can use as a bargaining chip to give in exchange for learning these new skills.
Originally set to release on May 20, Dune: Awakening will now arrive on PC on June 10, 2025. The head-start launch for those who have pre-orders has been moved to June 5. Pre-orders are available now on Steam, featuring a variety of editions that each come with their unique rewards, with the base game available for $49.99.
