A long time has passed since the PS4 release of Detroit: Become Human, but the game has just reached a big milestone.
The game, which is the latest big narrative adventure by Quantic Dream, was originally released for PS4 in May 2018, directly under the publishing umbrella of Sony Interactive Entertainment
It then received a new life on PC, with the self-published release on Steam in June 2020, which allowed this dystopian epic to continue selling and achieve the large numbers we report today.
Specifically, Detroit: Become Human has sold a massive 15 million copies sold worldwide, and having reviewed the PS4 version a long time ago, when Simulation Daily wasn’t yet a thing, I can certainly say it deserves the success.
The press release announcing the milestone included a comment by David Cage, Quantic Dream’s president and Detroit: Become Human director and writer.
“More than seven years after its release, Detroit: Become Human continues to resonate with audiences, bringing always more players together around the world. What began as a reflection on choice, empathy, and humanity has become a shared journey for tens of millions of players. This milestone belongs to the community that believed in its story and carried it forward, and everyone at the studio is deeply grateful for their continued support.”
We also hear from Guillaume de Fondaumière, CEO and Head of Publishing at Quantic Dream.
“This new milestone highlights the emotional resonance and lasting cultural impact of Detroit: Become Human. The game’s continued success across platforms, generations, and continents speaks to the power of stories that place players at the heart of the experience, inviting them not only to play, but to reflect, question, and engage long after the credits roll.”
Many years have passed since the golden age of Quantic Dream’s narrative adventures, which peaked with Detroit: Become Human following Beyond: Two Souls, Heavy Rain, and more.
The studio has been focusing on publishing titles by other teams, while working on the next big game, Star Wars Eclipse, which was announced all the way back in 2021 at The Game Awards.
Since then, we have heard basically nothing about it, and unfortunately, the press release we received today makes no mention of it, while instead it does mention the upcoming Spellcasters Chronicles, a free- to-play multiplayer action-strategy that Quantic Dream has been developing under the umbrella of Netease, which acquired the studio in 2022.
