DCS World Gets New Update Bringing Changes to Aircraft, Campaigns, and More

Eagle Dynamics released a new update for its military flight simulator DCS World, numbered DCS 2.9.24.19998.

The update includes plenty of fixes and changes, especially to a number of campaigns and aircraft, including the MiG-29A Fulcrum, the F-16C Viper, the F/A-18C Hornet, the H-64D, the CH-47F, the UH-1H Huey, the A-10C Thunderbolt II, the A-6E Intruder, the JF-17 Thunder, and the new C-130J Hercules.

DCS Core

AI Aircraft

• After destruction of the group leader during a task External cargo load the remaining group is flying at very low speed. Fixed.
• Adjusted Mosquito aiming logic for planning bombing attacks to avoid cases of ground collision or popping up too high
• AI Su-34 do not use drogue chute on landing – fixed.
• “Engage With” command results in wingman not responding to “Re-join Formation” command – fixed.
• After ordering a wingman to engage, sometimes he gets stuck in a circling pattern and refuses to rejoin after engaging the assigned target – fixed.
• Made special consideration for helicopter AI taking off from a separate FARP entity that was put inside the airfield zone of influence. (Advised best practice is to not put FARPs inside airfields)

Weapons

• Improved bombsight accuracy for submunition dispensers equipped with altimeter fuzes.
• AB 250, AB 500. Added bomblet fuze settings, fixed the dispersion pattern of AB 250 loaded with SD-2.
• SD-2. Implemented anti-disturbance functionality for Zünder 70B fuze, adjusted warhead parameters.
• Added fuze options for CBU-52 and M117.
• SAB-100, SAB-250. Reworked the operation sequence, added fuze options.
• Fixed a crash occurring whenever an active JATO device was destroyed.
• Rapier SAM. Adjusted rocket exhaust, added new flare-tracer block that matches reference
• Kh-25/29 and AGM-65 missiles. Limits have been introduced on linear and angular velocity of the target to prevent missiles from pursuing maneuvering aircraft.
• Mk-82AIRs collide with B-1B at release. Fixed.
• BetAB-500ShP. Premature detonation occurring when employed from certain aircraft – fixed.
• Corrected large caliber AAA shells’ explosion effects

Mission Editor

• Gun empties after changing status from ‘Civil Plane’ back to military – fixed.
• New advanced waypoint action “Disengage and RTB after formation loss” added for AI aircraft for tuning flight tolerance to losses before RTB is called.
• New advanced waypoint action “AI Runway Line Up” added for AI aircraft for enabling AI aircraft performing formation takeoff. AI will automatically adjust formation based on runway width and AI skill.

Features

• Dynamic cargo now set ON by default in warehouses in new missions
• Units that were loaded as cargo into aircraft will not be displayed on F10 map now
• Cargo disappears when unloaded from a helicopter even outside of the warehouse area in some cases – fixed.
• Cargo parachutes are not shown to the second client in multicrew or spectator in MP in some cases – fixed.

Scripting API

• Warehouse.getInventory() function not returning all items – partial fix added

DCS: UH-1H Huey by Eagle Dynamics

• Introduced a “Full Range Throttle Axis” special option. It comes with new keybinds and three different “Stop” button modes:
  • Toggle – the “Stop” button acts as a toggle switch
  • Momentary – the “Stop” button acts as a momentary button
  • Physical – the “Stop” button is actuated automatically when the throttle axis is moved below Idle position

The latter mode is intended for devices with a physical idle stop detent, e.g. Virpil TCS Plus.

Keep in mind that the “Stop” button needs electrical power to work, just like in the real aircraft.

• Additional keybinds were also added to snap the throttle to idle, cutoff and start position. The start position is slightly below the idle detent but high enough to start the engine. The latter two positions require electrical power if the throttle is already above the detent.

If you’re unfamiliar with DCS World, it’s a free-to-play flight simulator focusing on military aviation from World War 2 to the present day. It’s available exclusively for PC.

While the sim is free-to-play, it pretty much requires paid modules be fully enjoyed, including aircraft, campaigns, and maps. That being said, Eagle Dynamics has a robust free trial program for said modules.

Recently, the MiG-29A Fulcrum has also been released in early access, followed by the C-130J Hercules, while a new map for the Balkans has been announced.
