DCS World developer Eagle Dynamics had news to share about its aircraft and scenery, including the MiG-29A Fulcrum and the South Atlantic Map.
Speaking about the MiG-29A, it is now available for pre-order for the Steam version of the simulator. It has been available to reserve for the stand-alone version for a few months.
We also get to see a few screenshots of the pilot model and the cockpit.
Perhaps even more exciting is the fact that the South Atlantic map is getting an update within a coming simulator update. It’ll mark the exit of the map from early access and its official release.
Airfields will receive an optimization pass to lower usage of VRAM. That being said, texture fidelity will quadruple for airfield textures and double for building materials.
Vegetation will be distributed across the map with a new algorithm that will make it look denser and more natural. Snow will also be corrected.
Argentina and Chile will get upgraded normal maps, while lighting and visual systems at airfields will be overhauled. This includes lights that react to takeoffs and lighting, and a fix for Usuhaia’s PAPI lights.
New airfield objects will be added, including radar units, while wind turbines will be replaced with map-specific animated ones.
Many airfields and points of interest will be revamped. This includes Port Stanley, Ushuaia, Ushuaia Helo Port, Mount Pleasant, Punta Arenas, Puerto Natales, Mare Harbour, Rio Gallegos, Rio Grande, Provenir, Franco Bianco, O Higgins, Almirante Schroeders, San Julian, Comandante Luis Piedrabuena, and Pampa Guanaco.

If you’re unfamiliar with DCS World, it’s a free-to-play flight simulator focusing on military aviation from World War 2 to the present day. It’s available exclusively for PC.
While the sim is free-to-play, it pretty much requires paid modules to be fully enjoyed, including aircraft, campaigns, and maps. That being said, Eagle Dynamics has a robust free trial program for said modules.
Recently, the C-130J Hercules was also available for pre-order. On top of that, we heard about the Pacific Theatre of Operations 1944 Assets Pack.
The developer also provided a look at more content coming this year and beyond, including an F-15C Eagle and an F-35 Lightning II.
