Today, Pearl Abyss released a free update for its hit action-RPG, Crimson Desert, adding plenty of new content and quality-of-life updates.
Originally teased earlier this month as part of a handful of free updates that are set to release from April through June for all players, Crimson Desert patch 1.04 is the largest one to date. It adds Easy, Normal, Hard difficulty settings, new skills, improvements to housing and storage, and control presets.
Normal difficulty matches the original difficulty of the game upon its release, while Hard mode introduces increased enemy strength, new boss patterns, and tighter parrying and dodging windows. New skills have also been added for key characters, contributing to overall improvements in certain attack flows.
Housing now features multiple selectable layouts, bulk furniture retrieval, and streamlined home management. Storage options have also been expanded, allowing players to access stored items directly during crafting or cooking without needing them in their inventory.
One of the most notable complaints since the launch of Crimson Desert has been about its controls, UI, and accessibility. This patch focuses heavily on improving all of those aspects, adding control presets for keyboard/mouse and controllers, inventory category tabs, improved map tools, clearer shop and quest interfaces, and new accessibility options, such as colorblind mode.
Quality-of-life technical improvements to environments have enhanced rendering of distant environments, improved lighting and textures, and better character detail at range. Pearl Abyss also plans to release the 75-track Crimson Desert OST as free DLC and streaming content at some point in the near future.
Crimson Desert is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, starting at $69.99. The game has found a lot of success since its release, already surpassing the 5 million copies sold mark in its first month alone.
