Codemasters has announced that it’s finished working on EA Sports WRC, about a year and a half after the rally game was released, and that it’s “pausing development” on any future rally games.
In a development update yesterday, the group let players know that there will be no more expansions after the recently released Hard Chargers content pack, which was part of the 2024 season.
It did point out that EA Sports WRC would still be available for both new and existing players. In fact, the game is currently on sale on PlayStation, and the content packs are available for free. There just won’t be any new content added.
Codemasters has been making racing and rally games since the 1980s, and it reflected a bit on its WRC journey. The developer explained that it’s worked hard to create “a home” for every rally lover.
EA owns Codemasters, and the publisher just did yet another round of layoffs. However, there’s no news of whether or not Codemasters was hit.
It’s not the end of Codemasters, however. The studio develops several motorsports titles outside of rally games, including the EA Sports F1 series. In fact, F1 25 just released the first in-depth look at gameplay footage. However, for those who love the developers’ rally games, the news and the future of the games with Codemasters is still pretty bleak.
