At launch, City Tales – Medieval Era will feature two game modes: Settle and Bard. Each mode centers around a relaxing experience. You’ll work alongside nine companions, building settlements across two hand-drawn maps, all based around a deep economics system that boasts four tiers.

Companions will come with their own unique stories and skills as well. As you progress through the main narrative, you’ll also begin to forge bonds with them, unlocking each distinct trait and learning more about them as they help you shape the fate of your city.

You’ll have access to over 50 buildings and 40 resources to create your settlements, marking the beginning of your journey as a medieval leader. When making your cities, you’ll be able to construct free-flowing cities that grow and shape naturally.

After release, the first update will focus on expanded companion system, adding Caravan and Escorts to transport resources across settlements, and UI improvements. You can also expect Castle Upgrades, Wonders to build, Defensive Walls, Trading, Bridges, new game modes, and more to be added to City Tales – Medieval Era at some point in 2025.

This is Irregular Shapes’ first project since its founding in 2022. The developers seek to break traditional limitations via innovative tech systems that unlock new possibilities in gameplay and art, allowing players to have new experiences.

City Tales – Medieval Era will be released into Early Access on PC via Steam on May 22, 2025. For more information on this and other cozy building simulators, be sure to check back to Simulation Daily.
