The new developers at Iceflake Studios have revealed that they have been working on their first DLC for Cities: Skylines 2.
According to the announcement, the Finnish studio isn’t quite ready to announce the topic of the DLC, but promised to share more information at a later date.
This is a clear signal that the efforts by Iceflake to improve the game after taking it over from Colossal Order have started to bear fruit. Six patches have been released in six months, and it certainly feels that the developer has been successful not only in improving a game that many believed hopeless, but also in turning around the perception among many of its players.
While overall reviews on Steam are “mixed” (although they used to be much worse), recent ones are “mostly positive,” and considering how difficult it is to alter a negative perception in the gaming industry, that’s definitely notable.
That being said, Iceflake isn’t just working on the mysterious DLC, but also on another update, which will focus on “bug fixes and a few tweaks to the simulation.”
Almost three years have passed since the disastrous release of Cities: Skylines 2, and we all know that gamers hold grudges. Yet, we can’t ignore the fact that Iceflake has factually and radically improved the game since they started working on it.
Personally, as a big fan of the franchise, I’m looking forward both to the DLC and to upcoming updates. The road to transforming Cities: Skylines II into a game that is really worthy of its extremely successful predecessor may still be long, but it’s obvious to me that we’re finally walking steadily in the right direction, and that’s worthy of praise.
