Raw Power Games, which is working on Chronicles: Medieval, released a sudden statement announcing that the situation has taken a turn for the worse.

The statement, which you can read below, appeared on Steam earlier today, mentioning that the funding behind the studio is “no longer in place.”

While details were not provided, it seems to hint that whoever was funding the studio decided to pull support rather suddenly.

This means that now the studio is at “real” risk of closure, and the game could never be finished.

We have been covering Chronicles: Medieval rather intensively here, because it’s really cool, so you saw the latest reveals, like the map or the heraldry system, which was showcased just earlier this week. There were no public hints that things were not peachy.

According to the studio, early access was close, but now we may never get to see it.

That being said, the studio is in talks to find new funding, and while they can’t promise a happy ending, they encourage fans to keep the game on their wishlist and keep talking about the game to help.

You can find the full statement below.

“This is the hardest message we have ever had to write to you.

Due to circumstances outside our control, the necessary funding behind Raw Power Games is no longer in place. Without it we can’t keep building Chronicles: Medieval, and right now the studio is at real risk of closing. We’re not going to sugarcoat. You deserve to hear it plainly, and directly from us.

What makes it hurt is how close we are. Early Access is within reach. The world we’ve been building for years is finally starting to feel alive, and we have so much we’ve been thrilled to show you. Every day in the studio – in Copenhagen and remote – we’ve seen people put everything they have into this game, often far beyond what anyone asked of them. They are the ones carrying the heaviest weight right now, and we couldn’t be prouder of them.

And then there’s you. You found a small studio making a medieval game and decided to care. You wishlisted, you shared, you argued about historical accuracy with more passion than some historians we know. That is not something we will ever take for granted.

We don’t know yet how this ends. But in the spirit of our game we’re not going down without a fight!
These days and hours we’re working tirelessly for this studio and this game with everything we’ve got. Real talks are taking place with everyone who might help us find a way forward. We can’t promise you a happy ending. What we can promise is that we will be honest with you the whole way through, whether the news is good or bad, and that you will hear it from us first.

If you want to stand with us, keep Chronicles: Medieval on your wishlist and keep talking about it. It matters more right now than you might think.

Thank you for believing in us. Thank you for believing in this game. We really hope you’ll get to play the world we’ve been creating.”
