Anno 117: Pax Romana puts players in the role of a Roman governor as they’re tasked with leading and establishing provinces across the Empire. This will take players through Latium (where they begin) to Albion during the strongest times of the Roman Empire.

As players establish provinces in new areas, they’ll need to decide how much culture they want to keep in their society. They can integrate into society peacefully and adopt the religion and culture of the areas they’re in or take over with a show of military strength.

Of course, part of establishing provinces is staying connected to the heart of Rome and sending taxes back. Whether or not players do that is up to them — they can be a renowned Roman governor or take on the Empire itself.

The Anno 117: Pax Romana gameplay trailer breaks all of this down into sections. First, players need to build roads to connect to the rest of Rome while taking care of their province. They’ll need to lay things out strategically if they want to optimize production, while also paying attention to the layout of each city (no one wants to smell a pig farm behind their home, right?).

Of course, players will need to keep a healthy and prosperous economy. This ties into diplomacy and military strength — even if players magically get along with every other governor, they’ll need to protect their lands from pirates.

As players prosper, townspeople will begin to focus on things like entertainment, health, and knowledge, which players will need to accommodate. They’ll also move their sights to religion, which helps unite the people as a whole. Each area can have its own god, which provides various boosts like increased naval power or army morale.
