Gaijin Entertainment has revealed that the Bf 109 Z-1 aircraft, or the “Zwilling,” is coming to Aces of Thunder in an upcoming update as a DLC aircraft.
The Zwilling, which is German for twin, was created by the Luftwaffe in World War II when there was a need for a heavy fighting aircraft. By taking two Bf 109 fuselages and connecting them with a center wing section and shared stabilizer, the Zwilling was born with parts that factories were already producing.
The pilot sat in the left cockpit while the right was boarded up. A prototype was built at the Augsburg plant, but it was damaged during an Allied raid before it could ever be flown.
Soon, players will be able to pilot the aircraft in Aces of Thunder and take it into battle. It’s fast when it’s flying in a straight line, but it’s hard to maneuver quickly. Additionally, visibility is limited because of the second fuselage.
Because of this, dogfighting isn’t a great idea. Instead, pilots will need to fly high, strike at their target, and then speed away to a safe place before turning around and doing it all over again.
When it comes to weapons, the Zwilling includes 4 30mm MK 108 cannons, which can be devastating when it hits, but there’s limited ammo. There’s a handy ammo counter in the cockpit that can help players manage their ammo.
There’s also a 250kg SC250JA bomb and Flam C 250 incendiary bomb that can be added under the center wing section for ground strikes.
Of course, like other aircraft in Aces of Thunder, the Bf 109 Z-1 Zwilling can be controlled with VR.
The aircraft will be available as a DLC in Aces of Thunder in the future, though no exact release date was revealed. The DLC will also come with a high-altitude camouflage for the Zwilling.
