Bandai Namco announced today that its popular flight simulator-lite Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown has passed another sales milestone.
The latest update came exactly one year ago, with the game having shipped 6 million units as of January 2025.
Now we learn that physical shipments and digital sales combined passed a whopping 7 million units. It’s certainly not bad for a game and a genre that many still consider niche.
A message on X (formerly Twitter) signed by Brand Director Kazutoki Kono mentions that the developers are deeply grateful that the game has continued to soar for so long and among so many people. They are eager to meet us in the next sky.
To celebrate, a wallpaper has been published, and it’s currently available for download. You can find it on the official site in a variety of formats.
Speaking of “the next sky,” that’s a reference to Ace Combat 8, Wings of Theve, which has been recently announced and will release this year for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Ace Combat series, it’s a franchise of “simulation-lite” air combat games (also known as Flight Shooters) focusing on contemporary fighter jets and is well-known for its cinematic and deep storytelling. It just celebrated its 30th anniversary.
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is available for PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch, and it’s the best-selling game of the series by far.
