Marvel Rivals is just a few days from its highly anticipated release, which will bring Marvel’s popular superheroes to the world of hero shooters.

Developed by Netease, it features a large roster of well-known heroes, alongside a few more obscure choices that will certainly please fans who like to enjoy Marvel characters that aren’t as heavily featured in the usual Cinematic Universe (at least for now)

It also comes with a beautiful anime-like art style that perhaps defies expectations for Marvel-dedicated games, which usually tend to steer closer to American comics.

To know more about the game before it launches, we talked with Creative Director Guangyun Chen and Art Director Dino Ma, who provided insight on several topics, including the choice to go with 6v6, the art style, what goes into choosing a hero to include in the roster, and possible esports ambitions.

We even hear that over 300 lines of banter have been recorded for each character. When I tried the game, I was indeed surprised not to hear much repetition in the interactions between characters, if any. It was certainly a pleasant surprise that led to enjoying the banter much more..

While we wait to see if Marvel Rivals manages to take the world of hero shooters by storm (or by Storm… yes. I made a pun. I’m even proud of it) you can watch the full interview below, and enjoy the developers’ insight.

Marvel Rivals is coming on December 6, 2024, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

If you’d like to see more about Marvel Rivals, you can enjoy a look at Black Widow, a video featuring Iron Fist, a look at Hawkeye, a trailer showcasing Moon Knight, and the gameplay reveal of Squirrel Girl alongside the Launch Trailer featuring the theme song “Rivals ‘Til the End” performed by Chrissy Costanza.
