Warner Bros. Pictures released the first teaser trailer for A Minecraft Movie, giving a preview of how the studio meshed the iconic Minecraft graphics and mechanics with real life.
A Minecraft Movie stars Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Hansen. The trailer features each of them, along with some of the other cast. The gang (sans Black) ends up in the Overworld, relying on their creativity to get back home.
There, they meet Black and attempt to hone their creative skills. Ironically, the characters struggled with these same skills in the real world.
While the world is as blocky as Minecraft is, the movie puts a realistic spin on everything (besides the animals). Trees are made of 3D blocks, but they have actual leaves on them. Plus, the texture of canyon blocks is just as realistic. It looks like the hyper-realistic Minecraft mods that exist currently, with Jack Black as Steve.
While creepers make an appearance in the trailer, the most terrifying thing is the animals. The trailer shows several classic Minecraft animals, including pink sheep, wolves, and llamas. Something about the realistic textures on block-shaped animals with square eyes and blunt teeth is a bit horrifying.
Other enemies pop up as well, including mobs of the ugliest Piglins imaginable and Ghasts. The description explains that the crew fights these enemies, though the trailer doesn’t show combat. It will probably with various Minecraft weapons and armor, which could be a fun way to include the legendary diamond sword and armor.
The heart of Minecraft lies in crafting, and the trailer teased the iconic 9×9 crafting table. Momoa arranges the materials, smacks the table, and “crafts” something.
The A Minecraft Movie trailer seems to be what most would expect from a realistic Minecraft movie. Fans can view the trailer below:
