The Tekken 8 tournament at the Emirates Showdown 2024 has concluded and the winner has been crowned.
The event, which was livestreamed on the Tekken franchise’s official Twitch channel, was hosted between yesterday and today (August 31 and September 1, 2024) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Korean player Kkokkoma (Mu-jung Kim) from Navi won the tournament coming from the Losers Final following an exciting reset against Tekken Master (Sayed Hashem Ahmed) from the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Kkokkoma was using Sergei Dragunov, while Tekken Master fought with Eddy Gordo.
The Tekken 8 tournament was the highlight of the Emirates Showdown 2024 event as it was one of the Master events of the Tekken World Tour, with only two left, Punishment 3 on September 7 in Bolivia and Thaiger Uppercut 2024 on October 5 and 6 in Thailand.
The top 20 Masters on the leaderboard will compete at the Global Finals between December 5 and December 8, 2024, in Tokyo, Japan. At the moment, Kkokkoma holds one of these spots.
The Middle Eastern and South Asian fighting game scene has become more and more lively in recent years, even more so with Tekken’s own scene regularly topped by Pakistani players, led by the nearly unbeatable Arslan Ash.
The Emirates Showdown also hosted tournaments for Street Fighter 6 (won by Amjad “AngryBird” Al-Shalabi), Dragon Ball FighterZ (won by Yonis “Yasha” Ahamada), and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (won by Dylan “Eko” Bedrane).
Tekken 8 is currently available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Players have been waiting for the release of a beloved (or much-hated) returning fighter, Heihachi Mishima.
