Some believe that simulators aren’t popular, but Euro Truck Simulator 2, among others, certainly proves them wrong.
The simulator by SCS Software has been releaseed over 13 years ago, in October 2013. It enjoys overwhelmingly positive all-time reviews on Steam, and its concurrent players on the platform have been growing almost consistently since launch, which is rather unique.
Yet, today’s news is even more exciting, as Sunday, November 30, saw a brand-new report of concurrent users at 72.678, passing 70,000 for the first time. So much for unpopular simulators and niche genres.
It’s worth reminding that we’re talking about concurrent users, which means that the total active userbase is much, much larger. Below you can see how the game’s users have grown since release, and the past six months with yesterday’s record, courtesy of telemetry site SteamDB.

The achievement was certainly helped by the release of Nordic Horizons, a new DLC which launched on November 27, expanding Norway, Sweden, and Finland.
It’s certainly a testament to SCS Software’s hard work in keeping the simulator current for its community, not only with paid DLC, but also with free content and consistent reworks and refreshes of old maps.
It’s honestly sad that those who chose nominations for “best ongoing games” and “best community support” awards appear to completely ignore the existence of this kind of game and the efforts of their developers.
If you’re unfamiliar with Euro Truck Simulator 2, it’s a truck-driving simulator available for PC, but PS5 and Xbox versions have been recently announced. The PC version just received update 1.57.
The Iceland DLC was revealed a few months ago, and you can enjoy additional screenshots, in addition to its churches, and the Ring Road.
The last national DLC announced a few weeks ago focuses on Ireland.
The development team is also hard at work updating relevant areas of the map, starting with the Benelux region’s rework, of which we recently saw the port of Rotterdam and the city of Brussels. The UK is also being reworked.
Another interesting DLC will bring Coaches into the game, and we recently saw its bus stations, the Scania Touring, and passenger satisfaction.
