This perhaps won’t surprise many, considering that the game was originally announced with a launch window in 2025, and we’re close to the end of the year.

Today, we learn that the launch window has been postponed to 2026, with platforms still unannounced. The developers want more time to improve the overall quality to modern standards, including increasing resolution and optimizing the systems.

The announcement comes with the usual apology and gratitude for the patience, but Mages also provided something a bit more tangible in the form of screenshots.

We get to see gameplay screenshots, event images focusing on the characters (including scenes not included in the original game), and absolutely gorgeous backgrounds portraying Akihabara in 2010. I can’t say they don’t feel extremely nostalgic.

Of course, the character design is still by Huke, but the visuals have been completely renewed. On top of that, new story content has also been added.

We also learn that new details will be provided at the Weplay Expo 2025 in Shanghai between November 22 and November 23.

If you’re unfamiliar with Steins;Gate, it’s the second game of the Science Adventure franchise by Mages following Chaos;Head, and it’s arguably the most popular.

Following its release for Xbox 360, it has been launched on several more platforms across PC and consoles. It also received an anime series in 2011 that multiplied its popularity, and the new version Steins;Gate Elite, which uses visuals from the anime itself.

We also got a sequel, Steins;Gate 0, in 2015.

The visual novel is so popular that it has expanded to pretty much every form of media in Japan, and it’s considered by many to be one of the best games in the genre ever created.

Much of the content has been localized, and it’s available in English on multiple platforms, including Steam. Currently, the localization rights are held by Spike Chunsoft.
